Scumbags. Thugs. Assholes.

Monday, December 29, 2008

I know how corrupt, abusive and arrogant the people in power here in the Philippines are. But I was still surprised at the audacity of Agrarian Reform Secretary Nasser Pangandaman and his name-sake son who’s a city mayor in Lanao del Sur. They and their goons beat up a 56-year-old man and his 14-year-old son for reminding them of basic golf etiquette.

Read this and this.

I know. We should equally be enraged by the disappearance of activitists, extra-judicial killings and other serious forms of human rights violations. I am. But at least in those cases, there was a level of discreetness. These Pangandamans displayed their thugery in broad daylight, in front of many witnesses and in a place that’s supposed to be civilized. They didn’t bother to moderate their arrogance, even just for the sake of the other people who were present when the incident happened. They blatantly acted as if they were above the law.

But then again, we all know that they are, indeed, always above the law.

What the fuck, right?

Yet another case of why we can never trust our politicians to reach out to commoners, despite how flourished their speeches are.
